Every Aplauso account comes with QR codes at three levels: personal (per employee), department (team-level), and outlet (location-level). Each code gives guests a direct path to the correct tipping page.

How QR Codes Work

When a guest scans an Aplauso QR code, their phone opens the Aplauso kiosk - a mobile-optimized web page at k.aplauso.io - directly in their browser. No app download required.

  • Personal code → links to k.aplauso.io/{shortCode} (employee's own tipping page)
  • Department code → links to k.aplauso.io/d/{departmentId} (directory of on-shift staff)
  • Outlet code → links to k.aplauso.io/o/{outletId} (outlet landing page)

Generating Personal QR Codes

As a Manager

  1. Go to Manage → Team → [Employee Name].
  2. Click Download QR Code - you can download as PNG or SVG.
  3. Alternatively, click Copy Link to get the direct kiosk URL for digital deployment.

As an Employee (Self-Service)

  1. Log in to my.aplauso.io or open the mobile app.
  2. Tap the QR button (center of the bottom navigation bar).
  3. Your personal QR code is displayed full-screen - ready to scan or share.
  4. Tap Share to send the link via text, email, or messaging app.
  5. Tap Download to save the QR code image.

Generating Department & Outlet QR Codes

  1. Go to Manage → Departments (or Manage → Outlets).
  2. Open the department or outlet you want a code for.
  3. Click Download QR Code or Copy Tipping Link.

Customizing QR Code Templates

QR codes can be embedded in branded templates - table tent cards, door hangers, key card inserts, and more.

  1. Go to Manage → Templates.
  2. Select an existing template or click New Template.
  3. Customize:
    • Background color and logo
    • Employee photo and name placement
    • Tagline text (e.g. "Thank them with a tip")
    • Template size (table card, A4, 85×55mm business card)
  4. Preview and click Download to export a print-ready PDF or PNG.

Print tip: For table tents and door hangers, use at least 300 DPI. Aplauso QR codes export at 1200×1200px by default, which is suitable for printing up to 4×4 inches.

Deployment Ideas by Venue Type

Hotel Room (Housekeeping)

  • Door hanger with the housekeeper's personal QR code (updated daily via a code swap)
  • In-room table tent with a department QR code
  • In-room TV system slide with the tip link

Valet Booth

  • Mounted sign or placard at the valet drop-off with the department code
  • Individual cards given with car keys

Spa Treatment Room

  • Table card beside the tip jar (replace the jar with the QR)
  • QR printed on the checkout receipt

Restaurant / Bar

  • Table tent with server's personal QR
  • Printed on the check presenter or receipt

Kiosk Screen

  • Display the QR code on a dedicated tablet or kiosk screen at reception
  • Link the screen directly to the outlet tipping page

Rotating QR Codes for Multi-Employee Areas

For areas with rotating staff (e.g. multiple housekeepers on a floor), use a department QR code rather than individual codes. Guests scan one code and see the list of on-shift staff to choose from.

To control which employees appear:

  1. Go to Manage → Departments → [Department Name] → On Shift.
  2. Toggle employees on/off for the current shift.

Testing Your QR Codes

Before you print a run, always test:

  1. Scan the code with iOS Camera app and with an Android QR scanner.
  2. Confirm the tipping page loads correctly.
  3. Try a test payment using Stripe test card 4242 4242 4242 4242 (in Sandbox mode only).
